Is fluoride safe?

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral found in water sources and added to many dental products, like toothpaste, to prevent tooth decay. When used and measured at recommended levels, fluoride is safe and one of the most effective ways to prevent cavities! At Stuetzer Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, Dr. Stuetzer always puts patient health and safety first. At our office, fluoride treatment for kids and fluoride treatment for adults are always tailored to the individual receiving treatment

How often should I get fluoride treatments?

While dental fluoride treatment is an effective way to prevent decay, treatment frequency will vary on individual oral health needs and risk factors. Fluoride treatment for adults and may be recommended every 6 to 12 months. However, fluoride treatment for kids and individuals with a higher risk of tooth decay may benefit from more frequent treatments. Dr. Stuetzer will always assess patient health before recommending and applying fluoride treatment.

Can I eat after fluoride treatment?

Dental fluoride treatment may not always be scheduled at the best time. However, after fluoride treatment, we generally recommend patients avoid eating or drinking for at least 30 minutes. By waiting, the fluoride treatment can work effectively in strengthening enamel and preventing tooth decay. After the recommended waiting period, you can continue to eat and drink as normal. It is optional to eat before treatment.
